Sticker Border Paintings

For a few years, I’ve noticed and saved the border remnants from my children’s sticker books. The flat shapes allude to their once full interiors—smiling fruit, goofy dinosaurs, winking popcorn—but also transform into abstract fields of positive and negative shapes. The space between these shapes was set. I began to challenge the static nature of the fixed space by playing with their scale and orientation. This suite of paintings sprung forth from a place of making due—finding beauty and purpose in a world that was left behind.
